Hetero Tenofovir/Lamivudine 300mg/300mg is a fixed-dose combination tablet used as PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) to reduce the risk of HIV infection in people at ongoing risk. It combines tenofovir disoproxil fumarate 300mg and lamivudine 300mg in one daily tablet, a combination recognised by the WHO for oral PrEP.

How It Works
Tenofovir and lamivudine block HIV’s ability to copy itself if an exposure happens. Taken every day, they keep enough medicine in your body to stop the virus establishing an infection.
Who Can Use It
- People at ongoing risk of HIV, including those with HIV-positive partners, multiple partners, or inconsistent condom use
- Only people confirmed HIV-negative
- Not suitable for people with significant kidney disease unless medically reviewed. The lenacapavir injection needs no kidney monitoring and is often a better fit
How to Use
- One tablet every day, at about the same time. This product is for daily use only: on-demand (2-1-1) dosing has only been proven with tenofovir/emtricitabine
- When protection starts: after about 7 days of daily tablets for anal sex, and about 21 days for vaginal sex. Use condoms until then
- Missed a tablet? Take it when you remember, then carry on as normal. Don’t take two at once
Monitoring and Safety
- Before you start: a negative HIV test and a kidney function test
- While on PrEP: an HIV test every 3 months, and a kidney check every 6 to 12 months. We remind you when they’re due
- Possible side effects: mild nausea, headache, loss of appetite or stomach discomfort, usually in the first weeks only
- Do not use for PrEP if you are already HIV-positive
- Stopping: keep taking it for 7 days after your last possible exposure. See how to stop PrEP safely
