Kano is Nigeria’s third-largest city and one of the country’s busiest commercial centres. It also recorded 6,106 new HIV infections in 2025, the third-highest number in the country. Kano’s HIV prevalence is lower than in the South South, so that number reflects the size of the population and how quickly HIV can spread in a city this large.
PrEP stops HIV before it can take hold. If you’re HIV-negative and sexually active, and you can’t be certain your partner or partners are HIV-negative, PrEP removes that uncertainty. You don’t need to tell anyone you’re taking it. Our team handles everything on WhatsApp, and delivery is discreet.
Three ways to take PrEP. One conversation to start.
One tablet a day of tenofovir and emtricitabine (TDF/FTC). Taken consistently, it reduces the risk of HIV from sex by about 99%, and it’s the most established HIV prevention tool in the world.
You need a negative HIV test before starting. Our team walks you through that on WhatsApp and arranges the rest. Start on WhatsApp →
One injection every six months. No daily pill and no missed doses. In the PURPOSE 1 trial, there were zero new HIV infections among 2,134 women who received it, making it one of the most effective HIV prevention tools available, and Zivoko offers it in Nigeria now.
Ideal if a daily pill is hard to fit into your routine. The injection is given by a trained healthcare provider and lasts six months. Ask about lenacapavir →
Long-acting cabotegravir, given as an injection every two months. Available through Zivoko on request. Message our team to discuss whether CAB-LA suits you and to arrange supply.

HIV test
PrEP needs a negative HIV test before you start. We’ll direct you to a testing point in Kano, or add a rapid test kit to your order (sold separately, subject to availability). Starting PrEP when HIV is already present can cause drug resistance, which is why this step can’t be skipped.

PrEP questions specific to Kano.
QDoes taking PrEP mean anyone will know my HIV status or risk level?
No. PrEP is a prevention medicine for people who are HIV-negative. Taking it says nothing about your HIV status, and your use of it is private medical information. Our delivery is fully discreet, and we don’t share customer details with anyone.
QIs PrEP permissible? I have concerns about religious guidance.
PrEP is a medicine. Like any medicine taken to prevent illness, its permissibility is a matter for you and your own guidance. The Islamic principle of preserving life (hifz al-nafs) supports using medicine to prevent serious disease. If you have specific concerns, a scholar you trust is the right person to ask. We can tell you what PrEP does medically; the religious dimension is yours to navigate, and we respect that entirely.
QCan I get PrEP if I’m married?
Yes. PrEP is suitable for anyone at risk of HIV, including married people. Common reasons include a partner living with HIV who isn’t yet undetectable, a partner whose status is unknown, or simply wanting the security of knowing you’re protected whatever happens. You don’t need to tell your partner you’re taking PrEP if you prefer not to.
QIf I start PrEP and my situation changes, can I stop?
Yes. PrEP isn’t a lifetime commitment. If your risk changes, you can stop with guidance on the right timing: on the daily pill, keep taking it for 7 days after your last possible exposure. Our team will walk you through it. Read our full guide: how to stop PrEP safely.
